Moses Usor boosts Super Eagles chances, inspires LASK to historic Austrian Cup win

Nigerian forward Moses Usor has moved closer to a possible Super Eagles call-up after playing a key role in LASK’s famous Austrian Cup triumph, ending the club’s 61-year wait for silverware, Soccernet.ng reports.

In a victory powered by three Nigeria-born stars, Usor was once again on target as LASK defeated SCR Altach 4-2 after extra time in a thrilling final on Friday. The 24-year-old scored for the third game in a row, as he continues his red-hot form at a crucial stage of the season.

The final began at a fast pace, and Altach struck first just five minutes into the game, taking an early 1-0 lead. But LASK responded quickly, and it was Usor who led the fightback. Just six minutes after the opener, the Nigerian forward found the net to make it 1-1, continuing his impressive scoring run and bringing his tally for the season to 14 goals across all competitions.

Altach, however, refused to back down. In the 30th minute, Vesel Demaku restored their lead, making it 2-1 before halftime and putting LASK under pressure heading into the break.

The second half saw LASK push forward in search of another equaliser. Their efforts paid off in the 66th minute when another Nigerian star Samuel Adeniran scored to make it 2-2. With both sides unable to find a winner in normal time, the final moved into extra time.

LASK took full control of the game in extra time. Ten minutes into the added period, Abuja-born United States international George Bello scored to give them the lead for the first time in the match, making it 3-2.

Just three minutes later, Adeniran struck again, scoring his second goal of the night to seal a 4-2 victory and spark wild celebrations among the LASK players and fans.

The win was historic for LASK, as it is their first Austrian Cup title in 61 years.

What next for Moses Usor: Super Eagles?

Moses Usor's performance is another strong statement in what has been a breakthrough 2025-26 season for the former Slavia Prague forward. His consistent goals, sharp movement, and confidence in big moments have made him one of the most exciting attacking players in Austria. It could be the breakthrough step that finally opens the door to the Super Eagles.

With Nigeria's Super Eagles preparing for the Unity Cup later this month, Usor’s form could not have come at a better time. Reports suggest that head coach Eric Chelle is keen to give opportunities to in-form players and emerging talents.

Moses Usor could join David Ozoh, Femi Azeez, Isaac James and several others in getting their first international call-ups for the Super Eagles this month.

LASK are also chasing more success this season, as they sit at the top of the Austrian league table. The last time they won the Cup, they went on to complete a domestic double, and Usor and his teammates will now believe history can repeat itself.
