27-goal involvement in 48 games: Still, Super Eagles striker urged to stop being ‘too nice’ and be ‘more a killer’

Rangers FC manager Philippe Clement has told Cyriel Kolawole Dessers that he needs to be more ruthless in front of goal to become an even better striker, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dessers was the hero for the Glasgow giants on Sunday as he grabbed both goals in a 2-0 victory over Hearts in the semifinals of the FA Cup.

The Nigeria international showed excellent striker abilities to strike in each half of the encounter to set up a mouthwatering Old Firm showpiece with Celtic in the final on Saturday, May 25.

Dessers brace against Hearts takes his goal involvement in his first season with Rangers to 27 goals – 19 goals and eight assists – in 48 games across all competitions.

That is an impressive record in his first season in Glasgow.

Still, instead of receiving praise, the 29-year-old forward has faced harsh criticisms for missing a few goalscoring opportunities and delivering mediocre performances in key games.

Nevertheless, Gers boss Clement is satisfied with Dessers’ contribution.

The former Club Brugge manager would, however, love to see the Super Eagles striker stop being a gentleman on the pitch and shower more ‘killer’ hunger.

“Yeah for sure, but it’s still a point to work on,” Clement told Premier Sports, as per Yahoo News.

“He’s too nice as a person and sometimes in the duels also. Today, it was better. He kept the ball, he was strong, he scored good goals, so that’s important.

“But there’s still some work to do on being more a killer, but if you see the progress he’s made over the last six months, I think this is the best period of his career.”

Last season, Dessers managed ten goals and three assists in 32 games.

He was exceptional the year before that, notching 21 goals and six assists in 47 games while finishing as the top goalscorer in the inaugural Europa Conference League with ten goals.
