Premier League, Bundesliga or Serie A: Ademola Lookman picks league that suits his style

Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, has discussed the league that best aligns with his footballing style, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The 26-year-old, born in England, has showcased his talent in various top divisions, including Fulham, Leicester City, Everton, and Charlton in England, RB Leipzig in Germany, and Atalanta in Italy.

After experiencing football in Italy, England, and Germany’s top divisions, Lookman, who has scored the majority of his career goals with the Bergamo-based club, speaking The Athletic has revealed his preference for a league that suits his style.

“The Premier League is definitely suited to my style because it’s fast, technical, physical — and it’s the country I grew up in,” said Lookman. “But learning about the culture of football in Italy is really special. The build-up to the games, the atmosphere in the stadium, and the love that the fans have for football. It’s very special.”

Tactically, the Premier League, Bundesliga, and Serie A have different demands placed on players. However, Lookman highlights how much he has learned to adapt his game both on and off the ball.

“Often, when I play against certain defenders, their job is to eliminate space for me and give me the least amount of time on the ball,” stated Lookman. “For me, my job is always to try to get that space and time — whether that’s with a movement, a call, or a counter-movement. It can be crucial where I place myself in and out of possession. Those little five meters or two meters. They make a big difference.”

Lookman joined Atalanta in the 2022 Summer transfer window from RB Leipzig, and in his debut season, he scored a total of 13 goals and provided 6 assists in 31 domestic league appearances.

Meanwhile, Atalanta is still competing in three competitions: the UEFA Europa League, Coppa Italia, and Serie A, and Lookman will aim to contribute to the team’s success as the season progresses.
