NPFL: Lokosa and Alukwu combine to wind out Niger Tornadoes

Junior Lokosa was called up to the provisional thirty-man man squad by Gernot Rohr for the 2018 World Cup but didn’t make the final cut.

Super Eagles striker, Junior Lokosa, scored his first NPFL goal for Sporting Lagos in their win against Niger Tornadoes, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sporting Lagos, since they were founded in 2022 have grown in leaps and bounds, gaining promotion from the NNL to the Nigeria Professional Football League, capping it off with a Naija Super 8 triumph.

Christian Nwoke had kept three clean sheets for the Noisy Lagosians until their loss against Remo Stars, and hoped to continue his form at home at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos.

Jonathan Alukwu and Clement Naantum had chances to open the scoring to get fans in the Happy corner excited, but couldn’t find the target.

The host broke the deadlock two minutes before the half hour mark through Jonathan Alukwu. The Sporting striker hit the popular Cristiano Ronaldo Siuuu celebration last week at the Remo Stars stadium and scored another today.

Clement Naantum  played a long ball to an overlapping Akpesiri Naibe who squared the  ball into the box for Jonathan Alukwu, who fired home to give the home side the lead.

The second goal came on the half time mark through Junior Lokosa. A through ball sent the 29-year-old through on goal and he did well to hold his marker off before rifling home his first goal of the season.

Bala Yahuza pulled one back for Niger Tornadoes, but in little to no time, the home side resumed their football on the front foot but couldn’t find a clear cut chance.

The Referees final whistle signalled the end of an entertaining game at the Onikan Stadium, with Sporting up to eight points from their opening five league games.
