The ex- KV Kortrijk has been on an incredible run of form in the last two months, and that has earned him praises from many
Nigeria’s newest Ligue 1 star, Terem Moffi has a relationship with Alex Iwobi, even though they are yet to play together in the national team.
Iwobi grew up in a football family as his maternal uncle is the legendary Nigerian midfielder, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, while his father also played for Rangers.
Moffi also grew up in a football family as his father played as a goalkeeper. It has now been revealed that Moffi’s father, Leo, was a teammate of Iwobi’s father, Chuka, at Vasco da Gama of Enugu.
The two played together in the local league during the 80s and developed a bond which has now been passed on to their children.
According to Ligue 1 official site, Moffi and Iwobi spent a lot of time growing up before the latter moved to London at the age of six.
A few years later, Moffi also left Nigeria for London to complete his education at the Buckswood Football Academy.
“I managed to get into an English school at the age of 17 because of football. I chose this life, and I wanted to succeed in football,” Moffi told Ouest France per Ligue 1 website.
The 21-year-old joined Lithuanian side, Kauno Zalgiris, shortly after arriving in England before signing for another Lithuanian club, FK Riteriai.
His spell at Riteriai got the attention of Kortrijk, who brought him to the Belgian top-flight in January 2020. Eight months later, Lorient paid eight million euros to bring him to Ligue 1.
After a dream start, which saw him score on his debut, Moffi went on a barren spell before his incredible run of form in the new year.
Moffi has scored eight goals in 18 league games for Lorient, but six of the strikes came between January and February.
His goals, including a brace against Monaco last Sunday, have helped Lorient move out of the relegation zone, and go five matches unbeaten.
The 21-year-old has been tipped for a potential debut call-up for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month, which could see him reunite with his childhood friend, Iwobi.
