Sevilla chief drops Chidera Ejuke transfer update ahead of La Liga opener

Sevilla sporting director José Ignacio Navarro has shared a key transfer update on Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke amid rumors of a possible exit this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ejuke has been the subject of heavy transfer speculation this summer, with the club making him available for sale in a bid to raise funds.

Despite the transfer talk, the player and the club remain on good terms. With one year left on his contract, he has continued to take part in pre-season preparations, though not fully.

Ejuke was absent from the squads that traveled to the Netherlands and Germany for pre-season training camps, which sparked rumors that the club might be freezing him out due to his anticipated departure.

As a result, his involvement in Sevilla's opening La Liga fixture against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday has been thrown into doubt.

However, sporting director Navarro has cleared the air regarding the Super Eagles star.

”Regarding the first question, about Chidera Ejuke, a squad was called up for the trip to the Netherlands because there were two matches and then one in Germany,” Navarro said at a press conference on Thursday.

”It was understood that, given the ongoing issues, it was best for everyone involved that Chidera Ejuke not participate in that trip.”

Will Chidera Ejuke Still Leave Sevilla?

Given that Ejuke missed key parts of Sevilla's pre-season, he is unlikely to feature against Rayo Vallecano. While he could be named in the matchday squad, seeing any minutes on the pitch remains a long shot.

As it stands, Sevilla are under pressure to sell this summer to cash in on the winger before his contract runs out, risking a free transfer next year.

As Navarro hinted, Ejuke has attracted interest from multiple suitors this window, though he is yet to finalize his next destination. Saudi Arabian clubs have joined the race, but given his age, he is expected to prioritize staying in Europe unless an astronomical offer lands on the table.

With the transfer windows in Europe's top leagues closing over the next three weeks, a resolution regarding Ejuke's future is fast approaching.
