Why I would prefer Osimhen to join Manchester United – Ex-PSG star

Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Godwin Okpara has explained why Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen should choose Manchester United over other clubs if he decides to leave Galatasaray this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen has remained one of the most sought-after strikers in European football over the last few years. The Nigerian forward was already attracting transfer interest before leaving Napoli for Galatasaray in 2024, and speculation surrounding his future has intensified once again ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Several European giants are reportedly monitoring the 27-year-old, who has been in prolific form since arriving in Turkey, scoring 59 goals in 74 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray, winning three trophies as well.

Godwin Okpara backs Manchester United move for Osimhen

Despite Galatasaray's desire to keep Victor Osimhen beyond this summer, the Super Eagles forward continues to be linked with a move away from the Turkish champions, although they are under little pressure to sell, given his contract expires in the summer of 2029.

However, there is also a strong possibility that Osimhen could leave if a substantial offer arrives and the 27-year-old pushes for a new challenge. Soccernet.ng also reported that Premier League heavyweights Manchester United have identified the Super Eagles star as their top target as they aim to strengthen their attack ahead of next season.

The Red Devils are looking to re-establish themselves among Europe's elite following their return to the UEFA Champions League and with uncertainty surrounding the futures of some of their attacking options, Osimhen has emerged as a leading candidate to lead the club's frontline.

Speaking exclusively to Soccernet.ng, Okpara insisted that Manchester United would be the ideal destination for the former Lille striker.

“For me, I would prefer him to go to Manchester United”, the former PSG defender said.

“He has already played in Belgium, France and Italy. Now, what comes next? If he can't go to Spain, why not England? Manchester United is the best place for him because he will enjoy his football there.

“The way he plays will fit perfectly into the Manchester United team. It would be the ideal platform for him to showcase his talents. It would be lovely for him to sign for Manchester United”, Okpara concluded.

Osimhen has consistently expressed his desire to stay at Galatasaray, but uncertainty over his future continues amid growing interest from several of Europe’s top clubs with the summer transfer window fast approaching.

The 27-year-old was absent from Nigeria’s 2026 Unity Cup success, and Eric Chelle has already confirmed he will also miss the upcoming friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.
