Ademola Lookman transfer news: Atletico open doors for Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool

Atlético Madrid are reportedly open to sanctioning the departure of Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman just months after bringing him to Spain in one of the club’s biggest winter deals of 2026, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old joined Diego Simeone’s side from Italian club Atalanta in February in a transfer worth around €35 million, with another €5 million included in possible add-ons. He signed a long-term contract until June 2030 and arrived in Madrid with huge expectations after becoming one of the most dangerous attacking players in Serie A.

However, reports in Spain and Turkey now suggest Atlético are prepared to listen to offers for the Super Eagles star during the summer transfer window. Simeone is believed to have approved the club’s decision as Atlético continue plans for a wider squad rebuild ahead of next season.

Lookman’s struggles have reportedly been linked to tactical issues inside Simeone’s system. The former Everton and Leicester City winger is known for his direct dribbling, freedom in attack and quick transitions, but he has found life more difficult under Atlético’s demanding defensive structure.

Despite those concerns, Lookman still produced important moments after arriving in Spain midway through the season. He scored four La Liga goals and also found the net in both Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League matches during Atlético’s campaign.

Atlético are now said to value the Nigerian international at around €60 million as they look to recover funds quickly and strengthen other parts of the squad before the new season begins.

Ademola Lookman: Premier League clubs monitoring

Lookman’s uncertain future will likely attract the attention of several clubs across Europe, especially in England where he previously played for Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham and Leicester City.

Arsenal are among the clubs reportedly keeping a close eye on developments. Mikel Arteta is believed to admire Lookman’s versatility, with the winger capable of playing on either flank or through the middle. Arsenal are also looking for extra attacking support around Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli as they prepare for another demanding Premier League and Champions League campaign.

Liverpool are also being linked with the Super Eagles forward. The Reds have monitored him since his Atalanta days and believe his aggressive pressing style and pace would suit their attacking system.

Manchester United are another club watching the situation closely. United want more reliable goals from wide positions and Lookman’s record in major European matches continues to strengthen his reputation. His famous Europa League final hat-trick for Atalanta remains one of the standout performances of his career.

Outside England, Turkish giants Fenerbahçe are expected to return for the player after nearly signing him before Atlético completed the deal earlier this year. Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to remain interested as they continue searching for dynamic attacking options capable of performing consistently in Europe.

Ademola Lookman: Salary, transfer fee could shape next move

One major factor in any potential transfer is Ademola Lookman’s salary package in Madrid. Reports suggest the Nigerian earns around €6 million net per season, which would translate into a very high wage commitment for many clubs outside England.

That figure could rise to more than £200,000 per week before tax deductions for Premier League sides such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. While United could comfortably absorb those wages, Liverpool’s structure is traditionally stricter unless the player is considered a guaranteed starter. Arsenal would also need to carefully balance their wage system.

Paris Saint-Germain would likely face fewer financial difficulties due to their stronger spending power, while Fenerbahçe could use Turkey’s favourable tax structure to make an attractive offer. The Turkish side had already reached personal terms with Lookman before Atlético hijacked the move in late January.

Italian clubs Inter Milan and Juventus are also admirers after Lookman’s outstanding spell at Atalanta, where he scored 55 goals. But matching Atlético’s asking price and salary demands may prove difficult for Serie A sides following recent financial restrictions in Italy.
