Porto coach Francesco Farioli has praised Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi for his performance in their 2-1 victory over Stuttgart on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Moffi produced a solid display for the Dragons when they traveled to the MHPArena to take on German side Stuttgart in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie.
The Super Eagles star scored the opening goal of the night. Aside from his goal, he registered 23 touches and two recoveries, and he engaged in six duels.
He was substituted in the 59th minute for Turkish striker Deniz Gül. His efforts proved vital, as Porto secured a 2-1 win; Rodrigo Mora added a second for the Dragons before Deniz Undav scored a late consolation for Stuttgart.
The victory gives Farioli's side a crucial advantage heading into the second leg at the Estádio do Dragão next Thursday.
If their performance in Germany is any indication, Porto should be well-positioned to close out the tie in front of their home fans in Portugal.
Francesco Farioli Praises Terem Moffi
The match against Stuttgart marked Terem Moffi’s first Europa League start since joining from OGC Nice during the January transfer window.
Before the game, Soccernet.ng had emphasized how Moffi’s previous Europa League experience could be key for Porto, and that was clearly evident on Thursday night. Following the match, coach Francesco Farioli spoke highly of the Nigerian forward, hailing him for his impressive showing.
”Terem [Moffi] had a great game; he was fantastic in his link-up play with his teammates and in his duels with opponents. He showed a very good understanding of the game,” Farioli said.
However, the Italian tactician noted that Moffi showed some signs of fatigue, which is expected given that he had been out of action for over two months prior to his January move to Porto.
”It’s normal for them (Moffi and Seko Fofana) to show some signs of fatigue, as they were the last to join the squad. They are still working to find their rhythm,” Farioli added.
Next up for the Dragons is a league fixture against Moreirense on Sunday. Moffi will be hoping to find the net again and help his club secure three vital points.
