Samuel Chukwueze’s goal not enough as Lazio steal late win at AC Milan

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze got off the bench to score for AC Milan in their painful 2-1 loss to Lazio on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Rossoneri welcomed Lazio to the San Siro for their Serie A clash. Both clubs have Nigerian players on their roster as AC Milan have Chukwueze, while Lazio have Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

However, neither of them started the game. The first half was end-to-end, but AC Milan came out worse as Mattia Zaccagni scored in the 28th minute to give the Biancocelesti the lead heading into the break.

AC Milan chased the game for most of the second half, but they failed to do much in the final third. Strahinja Pavlovic’s red card in the 67th minute worsened their situation.

Due to their struggle to score goals, coach Sergio Conceicao introduced Chukwueze into the game in the 70th minute, and he delivered. The Super Eagles star was left unguarded in the box, and he used that opportunity to react to a cross and head the ball into the net.

Unfortunately for AC Milan, their joy did not last. They conceded a late penalty, which Pedro converted in the eighth minute of stoppage time to make it 2-1. It eventually ended that way, with Lazio running away with all three points.

Will Samuel Chukwueze’s goal guarantee him more minutes at AC Milan?

It has already been established that Chukwueze is not integral to Conceicao’s plans this season, and that is why the Super Eagles star has not seen a lot of game time recently.

However, he has come off the bench to score twice since Conceicao took over. Chukwueze has already shown the Portuguese tactician that he could be a reliable option. And with the other wingers struggling to deliver, it might be time to consider giving Chukwueze a try in the first eleven.
