Cyriel Dessers hits brace for Rangers in six-goal thriller at Kilmarnock

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers scored a brace for Rangers in their hard-fought 4-2 win over Kimarnock at the Rugby Park, Soccernet.ng reports.

Rangers returned to action with a game against Premiership strugglers Kilmarnock on Wednesday. The Gers were still smarting from their 2-0 defeat at home to St. Mirren last week.

That result saw the club sack coach Philippe Clement and employed Barry Ferguson.

The Sottish tactician gave Super Eagles star Dessers a place in the starting eleven. And he delivered.

The Gers had a difficult start, as Kilmarnock scored twice in the opening minutes, courtesy of Joe Wright and Bradley Lyons. And it was looking like it would be another tough day for them. However, Rangers soon grew into the game.

Vaclav Cerny pulled one back for them in the 35th minute to give them some hope going into the break.

In the second half, Dessers stole the show. The 30-year-old hitman scored eight minutes after the restart to make it 2-2. He got on the end of a cross from a corner and planted a low header into the net.

Then, just nine minutes later, Dessers struck again. He was first to a long pass from Ridvan Yilmaz, and he struck a brilliant half-volley that left the goalkeeper helpless.

That goal made in 3-2 to the Gers and put them in the driver’s seat. Nedim Bajrami put the final nail in Rangers’ coffin in the 85th minute to ensure it ended 4-2.

Can Ferguson bring out the best in Cyriel Dessers?

Therr are a lot of positives and negatives to take from Rangers’ win. Conceding twice is never an encouraging sign, but their ability to keeps their heads and stage a strong comeback was brilliant.

Also, Cyriel Dessers scoring twice is also a good sign. The former Genk man has had a topsy-turvy stay at Ibrox, but he has always stayed calm. He is currently the best striker in Rangers, and they would need him to be at his best if they want to achieve anything.

Dessers has always been maligned for his penchant for missing big chances. But if Ferguson can help him improve, it would be great.

The Premiership title is almost sealed and delivered to Celtic. But the Gers will hope to end this season well and build on the momentum next season.
