Ex-Flying Eagles star undergoes Slavia Prague medical as potential Peter Olayinka replacement

Nigerian prodigy Muhamed Tijani’s highly anticipated move from Baník Ostrava to Slavia Prague is well underway, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old talent, as revealed by Sport.cz (via Nouvelles Du Monde), has already undergone a comprehensive medical examination at the renowned Eden Stadium while both clubs engage in negotiations to finalize the remaining transfer details.

With Tijani’s contract set to expire in December 2024, Baník Ostrava has decided to cash in on the young forward’s potential.

Meanwhile, Slavia Prague see him as a prime candidate to fill the void left by his compatriot Peter Olayinka, who bid farewell to the club after a remarkable five-year tenure. Olayinka’s influential presence saw him amass an impressive tally of 43 goals and 23 assists in 170 games, predominantly as a winger.

The Super Eagles star, a celebrated figure in Prague, clinched three league titles and two cup triumphs with the club, establishing himself as their leading scorer in European competitions. He joins Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade on a free transfer.

Tijani, the potential replacement for Olayinka, is no stranger to Czech football.

The Kaduna-born forward initially embarked on his Czech football journey by joining Baník Ostrava’s youth system from Nigerian side 36 Lion FC on September 27, 2018.

His impressive skills earned him a professional contract with Baník Ostrava on August 27, 2019. He took in loan spells at Třinec (twice) and Karviná.

Upon his comeback to Baník Ostrava, Tijani made a memorable debut in the 2022-23 Czech First League, marking his first appearance of the season against SK Sigma Olomouc on July 30, 2022.

He scored his maiden goal of the season against Bohemians 1905 on August 6. Throughout the campaign, the young striker showcased his brilliance, notching an impressive eight goals and providing two assists in 27 league appearances for Baník Ostrava.

Currently valued at €300,000, Tijani’s transfer fee is not expected to present a significant hurdle in the negotiations, as both clubs are eager to reach a favorable agreement.

The promising forward, a former member of the Flying Eagles, represented Nigeria’s under-20 squad in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
