Nigerians abroad: Ariyo, Nwakaeme, Dennis on target, Akpeyi’s return ends in disappointment

In a busy day of football action from around the world, several Nigerian players made their mark with impressive performances for their clubs.

In the Premier League, Emmanuel Dennis ended his long goal drought by scoring for Nottingham Forest in their 1-2 defeat against Newcastle. Although his effort was not enough to secure a win for Forest, Dennis will be pleased to have found the back of the net again.

Meanwhile, in League One, Victor Adeboyejo scored a crucial equalizer for Bolton as they drew 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday.

In the Primera Division Femenina, Asisat Oshoala came off the bench and impressed for Barcelona in their emphatic 5-1 win over Valencia. The Nigerian international showed her class but could not add to her impressive goal-scoring record for the Catalan giants.

In Serie A, Tyronne Ebuehi scored a goal for Empoli in their match against Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta. However, his effort was not enough as Empoli fell to a home defeat against a strong Atalanta side.

In Belgium, Roosa Ariyo scored twice as Club YLA cruised to a 4-0 win over Anderlecht in the Belgian Super League playoff round. Ariyo’s brace helped her team secure a dominant victory, and she will be pleased with her contribution.

In Saudi Arabia, Anthony Nwakaeme scored from the spot to earn a point for Al-Fayha in their home league draw. The striker showed his composure under pressure, converting the penalty to help his team salvage a result.

Other Leagues

Elsewhere, Nigerian players made their mark in Germany, France, Russia, Poland, South Africa, and Venezuela.

Sareneren Bazee scored for Augsburg II in their win over Wacker Burghausen, while Osayamen Osawe scored the only goal for Rot-Weiß Erfurt in their narrow win over Hertha BSC II.

In France, Moses Simon played for Nantes in their 1-1 draw with Lyon, while Maryann Ezenagu helped Zenit secure a 3-1 win over Krasnodar in the Russian Superliga Women.

James Igbekeme impressed for Wisła Kraków in their 3-0 away win at SKRA Częstochowa in Poland, while Daniel Akpeyi made his debut for Swallows, but it did not end well as the club fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Golden Arrows in South Africa.

Finally, Jacob Adebanjo scored the opener for Academia Puerto Cabello in their 3-0 win over Mineros de Guayana in the Venezuelan Primera División.
