Semi Ajayi’s Struggling Baggies Thrashed At Spurs

After three consecutive defeats, Tottenham returned to winning ways with a convincing victory over Semi Ajayi and teammates

Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi was on the losing side as Tottenham Hotspurs claimed the first win in four matches with a commanding 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Goals from Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son moments after the halftime break was all Jose Mourinho’s men needed to add to the woes of the visitors.

Spurs were the better side in the opening half, dictating play, dominating possession, and creating the better chances. Still, Ajayi and co defended excellently to keep the scores goalless at the interval.

Tasked with the tough job of keeping English striker Harry Kane quiet, Ajayi was solid until the 58th minute when the Spurs man found space in the box to guide a composed finish into the far corner.

It was two-nil to the home side shortly after Lucas Moura led a swift counterattack before feeding Son, who made no mistake from twelve yards out.

Relegation is looking increasingly likely for Sam Allardyce’s men, who continue to pose very little threat in attack.

West Brom, a team that has been linked with the signing of Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa, are among the lowest-scoring sides in the English Premier League.

And with only 13 points accrued after 23 rounds of matches, the Baggies are 11 points from safety with just 15 more games to play.

With 21 league appearances and two of his side’s 18 EPL goals, Ajayi has been the most consistent West Brom defender this campaign.

But the 27-year-old centre-back’s best efforts may not be enough to keep the Baggies in the top-flight should they keep up the form that has seen them won just one of their last 12 Premier League matches.
