Super Eagles Goalkeeper Akpeyi Continues Mixed Start To 2021

The Nigerian shot-stopper was in inspirational form as the Amakhosi earned a tough win on Wednesday afternoon

Daniel Akpeyi kept a clean sheet to help Kaizer Chiefs secure a narrow 1-0 win at Amazulu in a Premier Soccer League match at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium in Durban, KN.

The only goal of the encounter was scored in the 11th minute by Serbian forward Samir Nurkovic as Gavin Hunt’s side sealed just their second league victory of the season.

In ten matches played so far, the Amakhosi have drawn four and lost the other four games.

Kaizer Chiefs are still searching for their first home victory of the campaign, with their other triumph coming in a 1-0 away win at Chippa United way back in October. Akpeyi was also in goal for Chiefs in that clash.

It has been a mixed start to the new year for the former Heartland gloveman, having been involved in two wins and one loss in 2021.

Akpeyi inspired the Amakhosi to the group stages of the CAF Champions League with an excellent 1-0 win at Angolan champions 1 De Agosto on January 5.

Only for the Nigerian to see his side wobble to a disappointing 0-2 home defeat to Maritzburg United in a league faceoff four days later.

The latest victory over Amazulu will lift the mood in the Amakhosi camp, though, as the former champions continue to hover around the relegation zone after a poor start to the season.
