Simy’s Best Not Enough For Sinking Crotone

The Nigerian has found the back of the net four times in Serie A for the Italian side but was not among the goals as they suffered another defeat on Sunday

Simy Nwankwo was an halftime substitute at the Stadio Bentegodi where his Crotone side fell to a 2-1 defeat to homers Hellas Verona.

Two first-half goals from Hellas Verona’s Nikola Kalinić and Federico Dimarco were Crotone’s undoing as the home side took their chances.

But the visitors, who had Simy introduced at the start of the second half, improved after the break and reduced the deficit through Junior Messias in the 55th minute.

However, their much-sought equalizer never materialized despite creating a few chances in the game.

In spite of the loss, Simy would be pleased with his performance, with the Nigerian forward fighting for every ball and doing his best to push his side on the attack.

The Super Eagles striker won each of the three aerial duels he contested, made two clearances, and got a tackle in.

But strikers live on goals, and Simy would hope to add to his four Serie A goals next weekend when Crotone host Benevento.

Simy’s last league goal came on December 19 as a consolation strike in the 3-1 loss at Sampdoria.

Crotone remain rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table with just nine points from 17 matches.
