Paul Onuachu Set For Shock Genk Exit As He Comes Third At The Golden Shoe Award

The Nigerian star has been the best striker in the Belgian top-flight by a mile, but he is on the verge of a shocking move

Super Eagles attacker, Paul Onuachu is set to leave Genk and sign for Lyon in the French Ligue 1. Onuachu has been unstoppable in the Belgian Jupiler League this season with 19 goals in 19 league games for Genk.

And it appears his brilliance in front of goal has piqued Lyon’s interest, who are set to pay 12 million euros for his services.

Les Gones are looking to bolster their attacking options after losing Moussa Dembele to Atletico Madrid. They have already brought in Islam Slimani, but are also interested in signing Onuachu as they hope to compete with PSG, Olympique Marseille and Lille for the Ligue 1 title.

Onuachu joined Genk from FC Midtjylland for six million euros in 2019, but his value has doubled following his brilliant displays this season.

The 26-year-old scored nine goals in 22 league games in his first season but has reached a new level this campaign with 19 goals in 19 league games.

His brilliant performance was rewarded with a third-place finish in the votes for the Golden Shoe at the Belgian football awards on Wednesday.
