West Brom’s Semi Ajayi Strikes Late To Deny Champions Liverpool; Onuachu Continues Impressive Scoring Run

West Bromwich Albion left Anfield with a share of the spoils, with the Baggies’ Nigerian import finally bagging his first-ever Premier League goal

Semi Ajayi smashed in his first goal in the English top-flight division to help West Brom earn an impressive 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Sadio Mane gave Liverpool a 12th-minute lead ending a nine-game drought without a goal.

But Jurgen Klopp’s men, despite dominating for long periods, blew the chance to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League as Semi Ajayi’s header eight minutes from time earned West Brom a shock score draw at Anfield.

Ajayi was denied his first Premier League goal when his strike away to Manchester City in a 1-1 draw earlier this month was credited as a Ruben Dias own goal.

But there was no denying the Nigerian defender this time as his powerful header in the 82nd minute off the inside of the post left Alisson helpless.

Sam Allardyce’s side remains second bottom of the table, but the English manager would be pleased to have led the first visiting side to take even a point at Anfield in the league this season.

In the Belgium First Division A, Paul Onuachu was again on the scoresheet as Racing Genk were held to a 1-1 draw by Waasland-Beveren at the Luminus Arena.

Onuachu’s goal arrived in the 24th minute when the Super Eagles striker collected a brilliant pass from Bryan Heynen and finished expertly for his fifteenth goal in seventeen league appearances.

But the visitors earned a share of the points all thanks to Aboubakary Koita’s goal just before halftime.

After eighteen matches played, Racing Genk are second in the table with 35 points before their visit to Eupen on January 6, 2021.
