Simy Nwankwo Shines In Crotone’s First Serie A Win

Super Eagles Star Simeon Nwankwo featured for every minute as promoted Crotone recorded an impressive 4-1 triumph over Spezia at the Stadio Ezio Scida on Saturday.

The Serie A basement club had to wait until matchday 11 to pick up their first maximum points of the 2020/21 campaign, but it was a sweet win at the end over a potential fellow relegation battler.

Nwankwo, who until kick-off had scored three of Crotone’s four league goals, was strangely not among the goal scorers against Spezia.

But the Nigerian international still delivered a robust all-round performance as goals from Junior Messias (twice), Reca, and Eduardo Henrique handed Giovanni Stroppa’s side their first victory of the season.

Nwankwo bagged all his three Serie A goals this term in October, with his first coming in Crotone’s 4-1 loss at Sassuolo on the 3rd.

The former Gil Vicente star was also on target in his side’s impressive 1-1 draw at home to champions Juventus two weeks later.

The 28-year-old forward then found the net on the last day of the month in the club’s 1-2 home defeat to Atalanta.

Simy smashed 20 league goals last season to help Crotone secure promotion to the Italian first division and will hope his goals can secure their top-flight status at the end of the campaign.
